Flossmoor is the south-suburb village next to Homewood that people name when they want larger lots, tree-lined streets, and a Metra Electric station in town. Western Avenue, Kedzie, and the tracks set the map. It is a finished village, not a new-construction corridor.
Who lives in Flossmoor, and why they look at Northwest Indiana
Flossmoor buyers often already know Homewood. They want the same high school district and a bigger house or a quieter street. The stock is older and more estate-like than a lot of Orland Park subdivisions: mid-century interiors, larger lots, and some true large homes. People who like this town are not looking for a teardown map.
Northwest Indiana enters the conversation when the payment, the tax bill, or the floor plan does not work in Flossmoor. Munster is the closest established comparison. Crown Point shows up when the buyer wants newer construction. That is a trade: you give up the Flossmoor station and the village streets. Do not pretend Crown Point is a cheaper Flossmoor. Compare the house, the commute you will actually run, and the closed sales. If you want a walkable downtown and a slightly lower median, Homewood is the next village over.
2026 home prices
Redfin’s April through June 2026 median sale price for Flossmoor was $339,815, down 3.9% year over year, from the Redfin Flossmoor city housing market page (34 sales in that window). Flossmoor did not appear on Redfin’s Cook County city table of places with 50 or more sales, so treat this as a thin sample. That number sits above Homewood’s Cook County table median of $259,859 in the same window, near Crown Point’s May through July 2026 Redfin median of $336,332, and under Munster’s $362,718. Those Indiana figures are not Flossmoor prices. Check current listings and recent closed sales on the street you want.
Commute
Flossmoor has a Metra Electric District station in the village. I-80 and I-57 are the usual interstates. Western Avenue and Kedzie handle a lot of the local drive. If you need the South Shore instead, that is a drive to Hammond Gateway or the Munster / Dyer stops. Confirm the current Metra and South Shore schedules. No invented minutes to the Loop.
Schools
Most addresses are in Flossmoor School District 161 for elementary and middle grades, and Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233. Confirm the boundary for the lot. No invented ratings.
