Who lives in Merrillville, and why they move here
Merrillville buyers are usually practical. They want a house, a short hop to I-65, and errands that do not require a second town. The housing stock is a mix of older subdivisions and newer pockets. It is not a boutique downtown, and it is not trying to be one.
Illinois-border shoppers often tour Crown Point, then add Merrillville when they want a payment that still works. Locals stay because the job, the school, and the grocery run are already here. Walk the block. US-30 noise and a quiet interior street are not the same listing.

We do not have a verified 2026 median sale price for Merrillville. Check current listings and recent closed sales before you set a number. For regional context only, Crown Point’s Redfin May through July 2026 median was $336,332, and the Northwest Indiana June MLS median was $299,000. Those are not Merrillville prices. Do not invent one.
Commute
I-65, US-30, and US-6 are the daily roads. Merrillville is a car town. There is no South Shore station here. If rail is part of the plan, you are driving to Hammond Gateway, a Munster or Dyer Monon Corridor stop, or a Lakeshore Corridor station. Check the current schedule. We will not invent a downtown Chicago drive time.
Schools
Most addresses in town are in the Merrillville Community School Corporation. Confirm the school for the house you are touring. We will not invent a rating.
