Who lives in Hinsdale, and why they look at Northwest Indiana
Hinsdale buyers want the village, the schools, and a house that matches the block. The stock is older and more historic than Naperville’s south-side subdivisions, and the lots are smaller than Oak Brook estates. That is the product. It is also why the median sits where it sits.
Northwest Indiana is only a comparison for buyers who have already decided the Hinsdale payment is the constraint. St. John and Crown Point will show more square footage and a different tax structure. They will not show a walkable DuPage village or a BNSF platform in the middle of town. Be honest about which of those you actually need. If the answer is Hinsdale, stay and price the house. If the answer is more house, tour Indiana with your eyes open.

Redfin’s May through July 2026 median sale price for Hinsdale was $1,549,224, up 7.0% year over year, from the DuPage County city table (89 sales). Naperville in the same window was $631,684. Crown Point was $336,332 and St. John was $464,767 in Redfin’s May through July 2026 Lake County set. Those Indiana figures are not Hinsdale prices and they are not the same housing stock. Use recent closed sales on the same block and the same lot size.
Commute
Hinsdale has a Metra BNSF station in the village. I-294 and I-55 are the nearby interstates. Ogden Avenue is the local east-west. If your week is downtown Chicago, the train is the plan a lot of households already use. Confirm the current Metra schedule. We will not invent minutes to the Loop or to Indiana.
Schools
Most addresses are in Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 for elementary and middle grades, and Hinsdale Township High School District 86 (Hinsdale Central is in town). Confirm the boundary for the lot. No invented ratings.
