Naperville, Illinois Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Naperville is a complete west-suburb city, not a comparison footnote. Downtown, the Riverwalk, I-88, and the Metra BNSF station are the daily facts. District 203 and District 204 split the map. People who already live here are not looking for a substitute town. They are looking for the next house in a market that has been expensive for a long time.

Who lives in Naperville, and why they look at Northwest Indiana

Naperville buyers want the downtown, the train, the schools, and a finished suburban map. The housing stock runs from older in-town streets to large 1990s and 2000s subdivisions on the south and west sides. It is a high-demand, high-price market. That is why it is on this site: licensed Illinois and Indiana help, and an honest comparison for people who will not get the house they want at this payment.

Northwest Indiana is not a cheaper Naperville. Crown Point, St. John, and Valparaiso offer more square footage and a different tax structure for a lot of buyers. You give up the BNSF station in town, the Riverwalk, and the west-suburb job map. If the job is in Naperville or along I-88, stay until the commute math is real. If the job is flexible or already south, tour Crown Point and St. John and compare closed sales, not Instagram.

2026 home prices

Redfin’s May through July 2026 median sale price for Naperville was $631,684, up 0.4% year over year, from the DuPage County city table (560 sales). That is the volume leader on that list. Hinsdale’s median in the same window was $1,549,224. Crown Point’s May through July 2026 Redfin median was $336,332 and St. John’s was $464,767. Those Indiana figures are not Naperville prices, and they are not the same product. Price the house to recent Naperville comps in the same subdivision.

Commute

Naperville has a Metra BNSF station in downtown. I-88 and I-355 are the main interstates. I-294 is the usual beltway toward the south suburbs and the Indiana line. That is a real drive, not a shortcut we will invent minutes for. If your week is downtown Chicago, the train is the plan a lot of households already use. Confirm the current Metra schedule.

Schools

Naperville is split between Naperville Community Unit School District 203 and Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204. Confirm the district for the address. We will not invent a rating.
