Lowell is south Lake County. More small-town, more space, farther from I-80/94. People who want a quieter week than Hammond or Merrillville look here. You will drive for a lot of the bigger errands. That is the tradeoff, not a surprise.
Who lives in Lowell, and why they move here
Lowell draws families who already know the south county, plus Illinois buyers who toured Crown Point and wanted more land. Commercial Avenue is the in-town loop. The housing mix is older streets, acreage, and newer subdivisions that feel closer to Cedar Lake than to the Borman.
If you need a hospital, a train, or a mall, you will leave town. That is fine if you already planned for it. It is a problem if you thought Lowell was a smaller Schererville. Drive it on a weeknight before you write an offer.

We do not have a verified 2026 median sale price for Lowell. Check current listings and recent closed sales. For regional context only, Crown Point’s Redfin May through July 2026 median was $336,332, Cedar Lake’s was $339,330, and the Northwest Indiana June MLS median was $299,000. Those are not Lowell prices. Do not invent one.
Commute
IN-2 to I-65 is the usual north-south drive. I-80/94 is farther north. Lowell is a car town. There is no South Shore station here. If you need Chicago rail, you are driving to a Munster, Dyer, Hammond Gateway, or Lakeshore Corridor station. Check the current timetable. No invented minutes.
Schools
Most of Lowell is in the Tri-Creek School Corporation. Confirm the district for the specific address. We will not invent a rating.
