Who lives in Whiting, and why they move here
People move here for a walkable small city, a lake breeze, and a short hop to the Illinois line. Some already work at the refinery, in Hammond, or in Chicago. Others want a front-porch street they can learn in a weekend. If you need a three-car garage and a cul-de-sac, keep driving south to Dyer, St. John, or Crown Point.
Whiting, Robertsdale, and Hammond get talked about together. They are not the same housing stock. Stay honest about which city you are actually buying.
2026 home prices
We do not have a verified 2026 median sale price for Whiting. Check current listings and recent closed sales. For regional context only, Highland’s Redfin May through July 2026 median was $273,063 and the Northwest Indiana June MLS median was $299,000. Those are not Whiting prices. Do not invent one.
Commute
Indianapolis Boulevard and I-90 / I-94 are the daily roads. There is no South Shore station in Whiting. Closest rail is usually Hammond Gateway or East Chicago. Confirm parking and the current schedule. We will not invent a downtown Chicago drive time.
Schools
The public district is the School City of Whiting. Confirm the school for the address you are buying. No invented ratings.
